Ashon L. McKenzie  Principal Attorney

As a small business owner, a proud father of four, and a leader in  my community, I am driven by the belief that everyone should access to the highest quality legal services. In my 13 years as an attorney, I have helped large entities, colleges and universities,  government agencies, small business, individuals, and families overcome legal obstacles, grow strong partnerships, and plan for the future.

I understand the importance of protecting your loved ones and your legacy. I also understand that the steps to do those things can feel daunting for most people. The thought of having a difficult conversation, navigating family dynamics, and setting a plan in motion causes so many people to procrastinate and put their loved ones at risk. I've made it my mission to take the "Ugh" out of estate planning and make it easier for more people to follow through.

I started my career as a public servant and an Assistant Ohio Attorney General, litigating matters in the U.S. Court of Appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court. I served as deputy legal counsel to the Ohio Senate. And I worked for a number of years as Of Counsel to a boutique estate planning law firm in Columbus immediately before launching McKenzie Law, LLC.

I'm a proud alum of Notre Dame Law School. I enjoy a good game of chess. And on an ideal weekend, you'll find me taking a day trip with my wife and 4 very energetic children.

Why We're Here

McKenzie Law was created based on a simple idea: it should be easy to preserve your legacy and protect the people you love. Most firms make estate planning a complicated and expensive ordeal. We flipped the "old school" approach to estate planning on its head and designed an approach that makes is easy to start, easy to do, and easy to finish.

For us, estate planning is about 3 things:

1. Your Health

Your health is of the utmost importance. Unexpected health challenges come, well...unexpectedly. If you become incapacitated and can't communicate about your health care wishes, you need a plan that guides your health care providers and loved one on the kind of care you want and the kind of care you don't. A strong Advanced Health Care Directive, Living Will, and Power of Attorney keep you protected and make your wishes clear.

2. Your Family (Especially Minor Children)

Our children are the most precious gift. So many people hold a christening or a baby dedication and set up godparents to support their children. But if you pass away without a plan for who cares for you children after you pass, then their subject to the government's plan - the state might not have much planned for them. Your estate plan allows you to designate the guardians of your choice to care for you minor children and allow you to set up assets for their care.

3. YourAssets - Your Way

A strong estate plan ensures that your loved ones get your assets in alignment with your wishes. Without a plan, a judge you don't know will distribute your assets as the  probate court sees fit. Your loved ones will pay the price with legal fees often at $25-$30K and a 12 to 18 month proce. With a few hours of your time and a much more reasonable price tag, you can make sure your loved ones are cared for and protected.
